We can review movies, ask for recommendations about a particular movie, debate movies and their themes, especially now with Hollywood being such a controversial place. Should be needless to say, but no spoilers, please. I'll start it off...... "The Little Things" Suspense, drama with Rami Malek, Denzel Washington, Jared Leto Thought this was an interesting pairing of Denzel and Malek as the detectives. Thought it started off well enough with storyline development and intrigue, but I thought this really dropped off, especially in the last third of the movie. Everything seemed to fall apart with dialogue, edits and not sure what they were thinking with the script. Additionally, it just seemed like another time Leto can act like the strange bird that he is. Disappointing in my book. =============================== "Hillbilly Elegy" Drama with Amy Adams, Glenn Close Pretty heart-warming story directed by Ron Howard. Based on a true story (stick around for the actual video footage of the real story) on a chaotic, mountain family. Glenn Close is almost unrecognizable as the family matriarch. Of course references to well known movies should be the commonsensical exception. For those that like the 4:3 aspect ratio their is a bluray release out this week of Batman v Superman where Snyder reworked the colors and placed the 4:3 IMAX shots back in. "We're The Millers" - Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Ed Helms Was in the mood for a mindless, funny movie and this one fills the bill. If you haven't seen it, highly recommend. Sudeikis can be a bit hit or miss, but who doesn't love him in this promo? (sorry, embedding is escaping me at the moment on this site) An American Coach in London: NBC Sports Premier League Film featuring Jason Sudeikis Pretty enjoyable romp about Sudeikis, a small time pot peddler running into a problem and ends up agreeing to smuggle drugs for his boss, Ed Helms, from Mexico to the U.S., but needs a disguise. He employs his neighbor, Aniston, as his wife and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) and Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) as his teen age kids. Poulter is especially hilarious as Kenny, the naive, innocent neighbor boy who's trying to find his own. Bonus: Aniston is pretty smokin' hot in this one as well. Film trailer Spoiler Funny movie about a young boy (Liam James as Duncan) who goes on vacation with his mother (Toni Collette) and her boyfriend (Steve Carell) to a summer resort town. Carell’s character does nothing but belittle the boy until he finds a bicycle in the garage of the beach house and uses it to begin exploring the town. He discovers a water park run by Owen (Sam Rockwell, who steals every scene he is in) and Caitlin (Maya Rudolph.) Owen befriends Duncan and he slowly gets him out of his shell and makes him realize that he is worth more than Carell’s character thinks of him. Gordo Posted April 23, 2021 Author Share Posted April 23, 2021 Leto is reportedly a very strange dude .... he won't watch his own movies (forget the reason) and does some bizarre stuff, like showing up at the Met Gala in '19 wearing this and carrying this. I mean he is straight up a socialist whack job, but is a hella good actor and probably a good musician, though personally never listened to him. Saw a few movies recently and just a quick rating: Light of My Life (Case Affleck): another depressing Affleck movie set in slightly futuristic dystopian, dreary, bare bones setting. For some reason he has to keep his young daughter veiled that she's girl from people they encounter. An ending that completely leaves you hanging. Don't waste your time. Rush Hour (Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan): had to watch something funny after the Affleck debacle. Tucker is hilarious in this, even to watch again. Can't believe he wasn't more successful. Animal House (John Belushi, et. al.): Not sure how many times I've seen this over the years. Just to watch Belushi's expressions in this is worth it. Book of Eli (Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman): If you never seen this, highly recommend. Don't watch the trailer as there may be some spoilers, just dive into it. Dystopian futuristic movie with fight action sequences and a great story. Bought this on BR recently and recommend it (or even 4K if you have the means). I was in high school in 1978 when this movie was released and I remember seeing it in theaters with some of my friends, so it has sentimental value. Unfortunately, like many comedians, he had inner demons and died due to drugs. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when the news broke about his death. John Belushi was my favorite of the original SNL cast and I also remember where I was and what I was doing. It was on Friday, March 5th, 1982 and I was home where I saw it on the news. It was a nice night out and I decided to walk to clear my head and I found myself at a bowling alley not far from my home and I stayed there for a bit watching the leagues play and then walked home. For some reason his death hit me hard and it has continued to do so after all these years and when March 5th comes each year it is not a happy day for me. I have a lot of good memories about Animal House too. My favorite line is when Bluto (Belushi) said “we didn’t give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!” Otter then turns to Boone with a confused look and says “Germans?” And Boone replies “forget it, he’s on a roll.” Hilarious, and it gets me every time! A classic movie and highly recommended. Oh, I even found the clip! R.I.P. Senator Blutarsky. So now this got me to thinking about a Belushi movie I have not seen in years and I wonder why. It was very underrated because he did not play a wild, out-of-control character. Continental Divide (1981) Starring Blair Brown and John Belushi Film trailer. Spoiler When Chicago reporter Ernie Souchak (Belushi) gets a little too close for comfort to a crooked Alderman he is sent out of town to interview Nell Porter (Brown) at the Continental Divide in Colorado. There is immediate friction but sparks eventually fly. Belushi is funny in this movie and especially watch for the scenes with Max Bernbaum. It's a shame all the way around. Forgot to mention, pushed my way through The New Mutants. Went in with great hesitation. It's what you think it is from the trailer: pained older teenage kids in a facility to supposedly help them find themselves to eventually become X-Men. Definitely more reaching into the horror side of things. It didn't really cut it as far as I'm concerned. Hollywood, doing Hollywood things again, like championing certain things while shitting on other, typically traditional convictions. Also, the trend of "empowering women" (how much more are they going to act like they're making up for the #metoo movement and make men look like 2nd rate, bumbling buffoons?).
