how do you edit the datafile?

what the steps and things i need.

i see the datafile.big, but not sure how to open it, get the datafile.txt out of it and then how to edit the datafile.txt and put it in the data folder.

You don't really need to extract the datafile.txt out of datafile.big...just start with one of the ones that you like from here.

If you feel that you must, you can extract datafile.txt out of datafile.big using gfxpak, EAzip, or BIGGui.

Uncompress it with EAzip using the command:

eazip -u datafile.txt

Edit it using Wordpad or TextPad (my preference), save your changes.

Compress it using EAzip again, this time:

eazip -c datafile.txt

Copy and paste your new datafile into the /data folder (NOT the /data/datafile folder).

Snepp's Site has a much more detailed account of it...it's from MVP 2004, but the procedure is the same, only you can't use gfxpak to compress it this year, you must use EAzip.
