Where's Fenway?

How exactly did Yankee Stadium get brought into this? No-one in this thread has said it was the best.

I fail to see how a massive, ugly, sight-blocking wall that had a few cheap seats added to it to gain some cash in a stupidly shaped stadium can be considered "The best park in the MLB".

it's the uniqueness of it that makes it good. like the statues in yankee stadium make it cool.

there's really no point in arguing about this stuff though.

You're implying that comfort and enjoyability are directly related to each other. (After this is gets boring, so I avoided quoting the whole thing).

OK, maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm in a seat that is squashing my *** and it's impossible to actually be comfortable, then there is a 100% chance that I'm not going to be enjoying myself while I'm sitting there.

Hell, I love baseball, but if you told me that I'd have to lose the feeling in my legs for the sake of watching a baseball game, I'd be asking "So, how many quarters are in a basketball game again?"

KenDammit, how does my opinion seem biased? I fail to see how Fenway can be considered a great stadium - not because I'm a Yankees fan, but because when I sit, I generally prefer to be comfortable.

Anyway, I'm done with this topic. And thetruth10, you can expect that avatar of yours to disappear.

With all due respect, I don't understand how you can comment on this without having been to the parks. I mean, I don't make any comments about Stade Fasciste because I haven't been there, and I don't think I have any right to say anything.

If you want to go by popular opinion, as faulty as that is, Fenway is one of the two best places to see baseball, along with Wrigley. In terms of "best" parks, it's almost unanimously SBC and PNC. But I won't comment because I've only been to US Cell, Fenway, Anaheim Stadium (awful, awful), Camden and Citizen's Bank Park. Out of that short list, Fenway wins by a mile. I'll see how Wrigley stacks up in about 2 weeks.

OK, OK A little too much East Coast bias here. Last year during interleague play, I had one of my best baseball experiences ever. The BoSox rolled into town and so did about 20,000 of their fans (They planned their freakin' summer vacation around it). Tickets were going for more than the Series we had in '02. No joke. I went to all three and then to the bars afterwards. Even after Embree gave up a game-winning dong to Gonzo (Alfonzo, or Fonzie) in the 8th (evidently not a surprise to Sox fans), the only thing they could talk about was the stadium. Granted it was after a few pints, but the Sox faithful hands down voted SBC over Fenway. The sightlines, the openness, proximity to the city, the beauty of the Bay in the background. Straight from the "Beantowners" themselves (real fans w/ the beat up old Red Sox caps).

And then right across the Bay, we have the WORST stadium known as Mt. Davis. What a concrete sh!th@le.

P.S. BoSox boys, I must say you might have some of the hottest female fans in the league. That blond ponytail coming out of the curled up cap, w/ the pink "Red Sox" half shirts, sucking down a pint of Sierra Nevada, talking about a Manny HR. That some hot stuff!!!

I have to agree. I also have been to Chicago and Boston. Fenway wins!

Man, and you look at the old Oakland-Alameda pictures with the trees swaying in the distance and the view of the mountain ranges outside the park, and you wonder what went wrong. Then you remember the Raiders, or as the A's site calls them, "Oakland's NFL franchise."

My friend's profile quote:

"Nothing hotter than a girl in a Sox cap." Yeah, Sox girls really can be fetching.

I'm sure SBC is a better park, but it's a completely different vibe. No one goes to Fenway to have fun, they come to soak up the history and take part in something bigger than all of us. That's the Red Sox Thing. Though I doubt anyone on earth has a problem going to SBC with the most breathtaking view in sports in what might be the perfect stadium.

Chez,

With all due respect  , I was giving the Sox fans account. BTW, I've been to every baseball stadium except the new Detroit one and Florida's (which I have no interest in) [a bulletin board of stubs to prove it]. I've even seen a football game in RFK playing the Niners in the 90's.

P.S. I will give the Cubby girls a close second on the "Hot scale", except they swear too much. Our female fans here in The City hold hands (not so hot).

Yankee Stadium....way too many advertisements. It has a classic feel because its image has been pounded into my head; if I were to just look at it with an unbiased eye, it wouldnt be all that attractive of a park. Although it is probably the most historic park in the league, without question. That adds to the appeal.

Fenway....Nice little park, with the quirky outfield dimensions. Looks like a fun place to play ball; perhaps not the most user friendly though because of the seating. Never been there, but the closest place I could compare it too (going by the comments) would be old Chicago Stadium, where the seats were crammed together and you were practically on top of the ice. I loved that, and I miss that old barn.

Wrigley....its comfy. There's a certain laziness that goes along with the park. (I mean that in a good, Sunday afternoon-type laziness.) But, there's almost a bar-like atmosphere in the bleachers, which are the best place to sit (especially in April where there seems to be a 25 degree difference between the sun-soaked bleachers and the wind-blown shaded upper deck).

Eh, they're all beautiful parks, really.

How can it NOT be considered a great stadium? I don't really factor "comfortability" at the top of a list in judging how awesome it is to see a game in a particular stadium or how amazing the game looks, or just the atmosphere. Its one of the last things I'd think of when defining "great stadium". Talking about whats a great place to watch a game, well it can be a factor...but, I don't see how anyone can deny that its just an amazing place for baseball.

The only stadiums i've ever gone to are Monster Park and SBC...based on the game Fenway is a pretty cool place for the fact of the great history it's been through, playing there in the game is fun...I think the SBC in MVP isn't all that great....why did they make it a foggy day/party sunny day???

Honestly, i don't really like playing at Yankee Stad, except when competing against the Yankees, cuz im not a fan...

Realistically, if i had a chance to go to NY, i'd go to that park, same with Fenway but i think i'd be excited going to Boston a lot more...I hear Oakland had $5 Wednesdays, do they still do that?...i wanna go there cuz of the dedicated fans of the A's....but no doubt, SBC is a wonderful park to visit as it captures great views - the weird thing is many ppl go to that park just because it's beautiful and can care less if the Giants are winning or not...

a huge financial advantage over the sox? hmm... i love when red sox fans cry about the yankees over spending like they don't spend a ton of cash

That's because you don't understand what you're hearing or just don't want to acknowledge it. The Yankees have the highest payroll in baseball and also are living in the New York City market where they have 10+ million people who could support the team. The Red Sox play in the Boston market that probably has just over a million fans. If you expand the area the team covers to the regional level then the advantage of the Yankees grows even further. Now, as I stated in a previous post, there are a number of other teams that have such an advantage over the Red Sox. For the Red Sox to have the second highest payroll in baseball they need to essentially be bleeding a willing fanbase dry of almost every dollar. I'm sure the average Red Sox fan is paying much more to the team than is the average Angels fan or Giants fan and the Red Sox gain a huge advantage because of it regardless of the fact that there are more fans in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. The Sox fans are paying so much more that as a result the Red Sox can afford that absurd payroll despite the fact that the team is only just above the middle of the pack in terms of total fan base size. So the next time you hear someone complain about the Sox's high payroll you should blame the Red Sox fans for being willing to bear the burden for that bloated payroll.

Ive only been to old comiskey, US Cellular Field, and Wrigley. Of the 3 I'd go with Old Comiskey (it was my first ballgame)It was really small and you felt real close to the action. I honestly dont see why Wrigley is considered such a "shrine". Wrigley (and this is with a slight bias) seems like a washed up dump full of tourists and seriously smells like pee (hence the nickname "the urinal") plus there's nowhere to park on the northside and the outside of the park looks like a boarded up wasteland. The Cell at first kinda resembled an airport inside but has been improved quite a bit in the last few years, plus they have hands down the best food. Personally I've never had a problem with it's "modern" look. Again this is all coming from a biased Sox fan. In a week I will be going to Miller Park for a Sox/Brew Crew exihibition game. I cant wait. Later this season Im also going to Jacobs Field and Comerica Park when the White Sox roll thru. And one of these days I'd like to check out Fenway too.

and I've been to fenway many times. Its not very comfortable, but I think you are overstating it a bit when you're thinking you have to amputate your legs after watching a game for 3 hours. coolness and nostalgia count for something. i don't go by the logic that the newest and most comfotable stadium is the best. if the Nationals build some bland cookie cutter stadium with recliners for chairs, that doesn't make it the best stadium.

Check the payrolls...I'm not saying that the Red Sox don't have an advantage over most other teams -- I'm just saying that their prime competition has a huge advantage over them, and that affects their financial decisions.

Yankees' finances : Red Sox' finances :: Red Sox' finances : Athletics' finances
