All of your favorite baseball teams are deep into spring training in sunny Arizona, but three heavy hitters are taking a timeout to challenge Xbox Liveâ„¢ members to a game of MVP Baseballâ„¢ 2005!

AJ Pierzynski and Jermaine Dye of the Chicago White Sox and Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies will be online on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Pacific (9:00 P.M. to midnight Eastern). Take a look at your Xbox Live Dashboard on March 29 to find out what Gamertag they'll be using.

Get details from EA SPORTSâ„¢ on MVP Baseballâ„¢ 2005 Game with Fame events.

If you get the chance to play AJ, Todd, or Jermaine, we want to hear about it! E-mail xlmail@microsoft.com and tell us what happened. Don’t forget to include your Gamertag and hometown.

If you've ever wanted the opportunity to take the mound against real Major League Baseball hitters, now's your chance! On Tuesday, March 29, 2005, from 8pm to 11pm ET / 5pm to 8pm PT, the Xbox Liveâ„¢ Game with Fame will feature real major league players taking their MVP Baseballâ„¢ 2005 skills online. Colorado Rockies slugger Todd Helton and Chicago White Sox teammates Jermaine Dye and A.J. Pierzynski will all take their cuts against some lucky gamers with MVP Baseball 2005 and Xbox Live Game with Fame.

Each of these major league stars will take turns playing short online games against randomly selected opponents in a specific online lobby (exact lobby name coming soon!), so gamers can see how they stack up against guys that have hit 95-MPH fastballs in real life. If you score the chance to match up against one of these players, make sure you've got your headset working so you can talk trash as you fool them with the curve or get them swinging at an outside slider -- but be ready for them to talk back if they bust your weak stuff over the wall!

Things to remember if you're joining the Xbox Live Game with Fame online:

* Be in the Xbox Live game lobby early

* Gamers will be selected randomly

* Due to time, there will be a 10-run cap on each game (if you outscore -- or are outscored by -- your opponent in the first inning by 10 runs, game over)

EA SPORTSâ„¢ and Xbox Live are bringing major league stars to you -- hone those hitting and pitching skills or get ready to be humbled!

Go Dye and Pierzynski. Go Sox!

Really? No way!! You mean Pierzynski is doing something that involves being on TV and has nothing to do with bettering himself as a baseball player? That can't be right!!

Man I'm glad that guy isn't on the Giants anymore

Oh yeah? Well, your boy Matt Herges has already admitted that HE was wrong...

"Herges goes on penance drive"

http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sox25.html

At least two of Pierzynski's teammates with the Giants last season ripped him anonymously in a now-infamous Oakland Tribune article, saying he was selfish and put his own numbers above all else. Those teammates later were revealed to be pitchers Matt Herges and Brett Tomko, both of whom remain with the Giants.

While Tomko was working out Thursday and unavailable for comment, Herges expressed deep regret for making the issue a public matter in the early May article.

"What happened was, it was a conversation with a person and it was just ... I was wrong,'' Herges said Thursday. "I entertained a conversation with someone that was negative about a teammate. Above all, I wish I could have taken it back.

"It happened, and the second I heard [the article was printed], I went straight to the field. I even went early and I walked straight in the door and I said, 'I want you to know what I said. You can hit me in the face if you want, and I'll take it.' It's something I take pride in, being a good teammate.''

Whether a teammate is good or bad, the cardinal rule is never to bash him publicly. Herges crossed that line and now is willing to pay the price.

"Let's put it this way, A.J. can say anything he wants to now,'' Herges said. "He has that right.''

To that extent, Herges is fine with Pierzynski's actions earlier this spring when he offered any Sox teammate $100 to hit a home run off Tomko in a game in Tucson. Joe Borchard delivered with a shot to right field, and even though Pierzynski was not playing that day, he made sure to leave a crisp $100 bill in Borchard's locker before he left.

Enjoy him...I'll talk to you at the All-Star break when you guys are out of the AL Central and AJ is batting .240

Why is Pierzynski going to all of a sudden bat .240 for us when he finished with a .272 AVG with the Giants last year? He also owns a career .294 AVG. The only one I see batting .240 is Mike Matheny (career .239 AVG).

Also, with roid-boy Bonds injured your geriatric team may not win anything. He makes the entire team.

No Bonds + weak rotation = no playoffs

I've never met him and I bet none of you have either, just because some primadonna baseball players say he is, doesn't necessarily mean that he is an ***. He probably is, but I don't know for sure. And as for No offense + no buerhle = no playoffs. Lots of offense and buerhle also equals no playoffs, so it works either way. I know not to expect anything from them and be hope to be pleasantly surprised. Obviously hitting 240 HRs didn't work, so they're trying something new, I can't blame them for that. Carlos Lee didn't hussle, Ozzie wants scrappy players, that's what he got. Will it work, no one knows, not even the team. By the way, why would Mark Buehrle not be around? He's a workhorse.

There's a reason Minnesota traded him, and it's not because they "saw something in Nathan". This guy has been a cancer everywhere he's gone. 3 teams in 3 years for a budding young catcher is not the sign of a great clubhouse personality.

And I seriously doubt that Sabean would have shipped him out so quick because of Tomko and Matt "if it weren't for me the Giants would have won the NL West" Herges...

Well, Sabean has an excuse, as he makes some of the most ill-advised moves ever. (Dumping Neifi Perez and then signing Omar Vizquel to a 4 year deal? Edgardo Alfonso at that price tag? Pierzynski for Nathan? Come on. This guy is not a good GM.

I agree somewhat...I don't agree with the Neifi Perez comment though cuz he is just terrible...The thing with Sabean is he has made some great moves (i.e Jason Schmidt for John Vander Wal and Armando Rios), but yeah Terry Ryan from Minnesota just flat out stole Nathan from him, and that pisses me off...To say that he is not a good GM is a little harsh, because look at the Giants since he came aboard...I believe behind only the Yankees and Braves for best winning percentage, and even though he makes some very questionable moves, somehow they work out, but he doesn't do anything with the farm system, which is one of the worst in all of baseball...

Time will tell about Vizquel, and I agree, that didn't make much sense considering Deivi Cruz held his own pretty well last year...

The Pierzynski for Nathan deal just haunts me while I sleep though

EDIT: With regards to Alfonzo...That isn't Sabeans fault I don't think, because Alfonzo was just a flat out bust...Look at his numbers in NY, and then comes over and just flat out sucks (with the bat)...He does win some ballgames with the glove though, and I just have this really wierd feeling he is going to have a solid season in 2005

Buehrle pitched today and he will be our opening day starter.

The Twins traded Pierzynski because they had a young phenom catching prospect named Joe Mauer and he was ready for the majors. Also, Pierzynski was set to get a big contract via arbitration after 2003 and the Twins don't have a large payroll. He ended up getting $3.5 million from the Giants. Why would the Twins spend $3.5 million on Pierzynski when they had Joe Mauer (who was MLB-ready) making nothing? They chose to cut salary, like they always do. Where have you been? :?

By the way, Pierzynski was not a cancer in Minnesota. In fact, the players and fans there loved him and many still do. Where are you coming up with this stuff? Let me guess -- your ***.

Here's the real reason you guys bash Pierzynski so much -- because the Giants gave up a stud closer for him. Now you guys had to greatly overpay Armando Benitez and a no-hitting catcher in Mike Matheny. After all that, I would probably be pissed as well.

The fact is that Matt Herges has since admitted that he was wrong about Pierzynski. Did you ever think that the media blew the story out of proportion?

While I really have no dog in this fight so to speak, Herges only admitted to being wrong in having the conversation with someone, not the validity of those comments. Pierzynski could be a fine, upstanding citizen worthy of children's admiration, and adult's respect, or, he could be a complete horse's ***. Honestly, I don't know. However, Herges didn't say his opinion was different, just that he regretted voicing it.
