Jim825
This is a good one as well http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/index.html I was going to recommend retrosheet.org as well. It's a great site. I used it a lot while working on classic rosters last year.

smart88
'73 Angels TC3 Why did you pick the '73 Angels, why not the 86 or 82 Angels teams which both one thier division.
capa
Why did you pick the '73 Angels, why not the 86 or 82 Angels teams which both one thier division. One thing I think maybe we did not make clear is that the teams that are included in the first release are not necessarily the "best" teams for that organization, but rather favorite teams of some of the original classic roster makers like myself, AlexTony, SteCropper, and others. I like the 61 Reds team...are they better than the 75 Reds? No way. But it was a personal favorite of mine. So, if we all understand that this is the criteria that was used in selecting most of the teams, that may help. I think when all is said and done with follow-on releases, we will have most everyone's favorites in there...but that may take a few releases. One other note - once this is released, all you need to do to replace any team in the list is to read the mbe file into MVPEDIT, and then import your favorite team from the Lahman db to overwrite a team in the mbe file. You can customize to your heart's content... C

AgentQ16
I'd love to see the 89 Giants in one of the sets. (Clark, Mitchell, Williams) and the 82 or 86 Angels. (Reggie, Carew, Wally!! )
fuzzone
1973 Angels i picked and i think i made it too. Can't recall but i know why i picked the 1973 angels last year. On july 15th, 1973 in Tiger Stadium, a year that crazy *** nolan ryan had whooped the Tigers 4 times with an era i think 1.15. Anyways, on July 15th, ryan pitched a no-hitter and the final out was Norm Cash who came up to bat with a wooden table leg. He knew he didnt have a chance to make any contact and plus it gave Ryan a little laugh who was in the zone that game trying to keep the no hitter. so why 1973, because i think it was ryan's best season with 2 no hitters. If i make the 1932 Yankees, which i probably will...it'll be because that's the year ruth called his shot in wrigley during the world series and maybe every now and then, i like to close my eyes and imagine he's doing it again against the 1932 cubs. so with all that said, it's not really about the world series rings to me. It's about greatest and great moments. Hope you guys understand..some world series teams just aren't that magical in my eyes.

deadballfan
Most of this thread has been dedicated to "Why this team?" or "Where's <insert favorite team>?". Will the rest of MVP Studio be coming out soon so those who dont agree with every team selection can put in the teams they really want in there? And is there going to be room for some of the all time teams that have been discussed ? With Stormin Norman at first, Greenberg will have to DH or play in LF. And I guess that leaves big Cecil for pinch hitting and poor Rudy York riding the pine (or in AAA) being the 4th 1B and 3rd catcher behind Freehan & Parrish.
fuzzone
Most of this thread has been dedicated to "Why this team?" or "Where's <insert favorite team>?". Will the rest of MVP Studio be coming out soon so those who dont agree with every team selection can put in the teams they really want in there? well from my knowledge as this is a group collaboration so i may be wrong about the following, the first installment of TC will have 60 oldtime teams, a lot of which are new and redone. The second installment will have 90 i believe which will finish up the minor leagues. The third installment will have a 120 teams. I'm aiming for some ALL-TIME TEAMS where a good portion i believe have already been done. And after that, i guess the direction will be more of specialized kind of thing where the forth, fifth and so on installments will depend completely on Stecropper and AlexTony and what ever direction they really want to take this project. As far as my knowledge goes, I believe the second installment will contain most of the new features: -music -oldtime stadiums( -- we're -- well mostly me, lol, i'm aiming for two. More like im pressuring for it!!!!) -new uniforms -click to start screen selection tool or possibly a theme installer where you will have from 3-5 package themes to choose from and u can swap them as you like. Music, menu screen and so on. - portraits -and a new mini game called Center Field Catch (lol im soo kidding about that one!) The future of mvp studio so far is releasing Studio 1.5 which will still be a uni-editor but fixing up a few things. The logo editor, portrait generator, and many of the tools of last year have been recreated. How else you think we're doing this so efficiently? It would probably take a year alone to do this manually. Portraits, logos, met files -- the whole thing. As of when these tools will be released, hopefully sometime after the second or third installment of total classics.Or when more people start donating -- which ever comes first. and finally, for the people asking why the 2001 diamondbacks arent in total classics, 2002 angels and so on -- because to me, now im only speaking for me here, I dont really consider them classic. I know the 2000 yankees are in total classics but that's because of the subway series. Something worth re-creating. If the 2000 yankees won the world series against let's say the phillies, the 2000 yankees would not be considered classic unless game 7 was won in crazy kirk gibson dramatic fashion. World series teams do not mean total classics, well at least not in my book. Scroll up and read the wooden leg story one more time. --- first release: aiming for this tuesday as there's somethings that need to be polished up. Hopefully. and maybe adding a little something extra and there will be 2 diff. kinds of installers.
deadballfan
Fuzz, Didn't mean to sound negative in my post. Quite the opposite really. The thread started out we have too many teams and not enough slots so not everyone's team will make it, which came right on the heels of the "TC Wants You" post asking for help which naturally sent some scrambling to see if their team can stay or get in. The project will be a hit, can't please everyone all the time though. The studio and future installments are the hope for max customization for everyone to have their own "perfect roster", just needed an update is all. Happen to agree that the 2000 teams are prolly a good cutoff point -- others have a good point as well about 2001 and 2002 (both 7 game series) and then there's those 04 BoSox that broke an 86 year old curse. Is one side "right" and the other "wrong" ? Of course not. However, you're the Knowledgable Nine, the guiding forces of the project, make a decision, stand by it. Just be aware at some point in the future ppl might appreciate MVP Studio version X to install the newer World Series teams, particularly that 2005 Tigers team with Pudge and Maggs that shocks the baseball world, after a 7 game LCS with the Red Sox and 7 game WS with the Cards or Cubs of course. And I'll be the first to admit that I am in that winning teams are classic teams crowd, but playing the 04 Classics, teams like the 73 Angels and the 60s expansion teams grew on me. No reason why they shouldn't be in there. But it's hard to justify the 73 Angels while saying there won't be room for the 86 Angels. So, make room for both. To be concluded ... deadballfan
there will be 'LOTS' of teams fellas!! remember fellas no matter what teams are in we will not get ALL that everybody wants. also, more than likely, each person may have to load the teams pics to see the players of their choice. remember, there are only so many spots for pics. most should fit into the portrait.big file. but, not all 02. '06 Cubs Tony 03. '08 Cubs TC3 06. '10 A's TC3 07. '12 A's Tony working on 27. '55 Dodgers Chris/Tony 29. '57 Dodgers TC3 28. '57 Braves Chris/Tony 34. '61 Braves Tony 40. '63 Dodgers Don 50. '65 Dodgers Chris 61. '73 A's Tony 64. '74 A's Chris 66. '75 Reds Tony 70. '77 Reds TC3 67. '77 LA Tony 73. '78 Dodgers TC3 68. '77 NYY Tony 72. '78 Yankees TC3 97. '00 Diamondbacks Chris 100. '01 Arizona Tony working on Here are 10 possibilities to squeeze in a team that at this point might not make the cut. I should point out that I am slightly partial toward the 1908 Cubs (made a portrait set for it, but all the 06-10 Cubs teams were good) and especially partial to the 1910 A's (whole pack). I can see the arguments for both sides on the other 8 cases, but there should be room for the 73 Angels or the 89 A's or the All Time Whatevers and someone can pick between the 77 and 78 Yankees (and the other 7 pairs), or even make it a 2 yr composite or replace the 4th middle reliever or 3rd catcher with the other year's key free agent or something. It's easier for one team's fans to insert the other year later than for all the other fans to replace a spot with a key team that gives the pack a better range of franchises and years. AlexTony
that makes 'some' sense. kinda like a 'dynasty' package for the team. but, it also breaks the 'actual' team/ 25 man roster for that season. Hmm, that is the good part about mvp edit. i suppose if one wishes they could actually do this anyways and then 'add' another team :?:
fuzzone
DeadballFan, well, from what i have done so far, i have added already the 1908 cubs, 1910 A's -- both packs u contributed last year. And the 1978 yankees. and since im removing the Forum Fanatics and Mod Squad i do have 2 more team slots. I really do appreciate your work and help last year with team packages so i'll squeeze in the 1986 Angels? that's the team you want in right? peterbernard
So the list now is: 05 Giants 08 Cubs 09 Detroit 09 Pitttsburgh 10 Phil A's 18 Red Sox 19 ChiSox 27 Yanks 29 A's 34 cards 34 Crawfords 41 Yanks 41 Red Sox 48 Browns 48 Cleveland 54 Giants 57 Braves 57 Dodgers 60 Pittsburgh 61 Yanks 61 Senators 62 Angels 64 Colts 65 Twins 65 Indians 66 Astros 68 Detroit 68 Cards 69 Braves 69 Cubs 69 Pilots 70 Orioles 73 Angels 73 Mets 74 A's 74 Rangers 75 Reds 77 Reds 78 Red Sox 78 Yanks 78 Dodgers 78 SD Padres 84 Detroit 84 Mets 85 Yanks 86 Mets 86 Angels 86 Boston 87 cards 87 Twins 88 Dodgers 90 Reds 91 Blue Jays 94 Expos 97 Seattle Mariners 98 Yanks 2000 Yanks 2000 Mets Is there a definitive list for what's to come or is it in flux? If I got together a roster for a late 40s or early 50s Dodger team, is there any chance of it getting included? Then you could use the Preacher Roe face. EDIT: I've got my head buried in working so much, I forgot to come up for air and say CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who created phase one of this, it's quite a huge effort. EDIT AGAIN: I would like to do the 49 Dodgers--Jackie Robinson MVP and batting champ, NL Champs, Newcombe Rookie of Year, Campanella, Hodges, Pee Wee, Furillo, Duke Snider, Carl Erskine, Ralph Branca and future tv star Chuck Connors.
