But Barry Zito tips off his pitches. Most pitchers as they wind up to pitch hide the ball pretty well, but Zito uncovers the ball from his glove way before he is about to release the ball, so one can see his color code & therefore is able to read his pitch.

i too concentrate on the pitch type more than location with it on. my strikeouts are way down in 2005 vs. 2004 (non 'tipping' of pitches). i think there's a trade off.

I dont even use the batters eye anymore. I found myself concentrating more on the what pitch was coming rather than its location. I actually hit better with it off.
