MVP pn htpc

I built my own, and it cost me about just under 2 grand. Its better to build your own that way you have what you want. HTPC is the bomb. Not only can you play pc games on your tv but you can save your entire dvd collection on it. I have a 550 gig hd and can store most of my dvds on it. But I mostly use it to play my mvp and other pc games.

far out, yes i had planned on building my own as well, always build my own pc's it's just plain fun. and also exactly what you: said you get what you want. what type of case did you use? and are there cases that allow room for mods like lighting, water cooling etc? i'm torn between building the htpc and a new water cooled machine for myself, defintely can't afford both right now. one other question. do you run this through a dolby digital receiver or do you have a digital card? if so which card do you use and how did you get it to produce true 5.1,6.1,7.1 digital sound?

I have a silverstone lascala lc-10m case with vfd. Pretty hefty and tough to work with the space that is. I have asus A8N sli deluxe mobo, socket 939 amd64 3500+ cpu, 1 gig of ram, nec 3250a dvdrw, nvidia 6600gt 128m card capable of sli, 550 hdd, ocz modstream psu 520w. No sound card just using the onboard sound, has an optical out. Have not connected to my hometheater since the panny dlp has good sound and my home theater sys is upstairs. if you plan on getting a sound card for your htpc, many have preferred the audigy z2 from creative labs. The games just look awesome on the panny. Doom 3, Call of Duty, Battefield, etc. all look great on it. I don't think I'll ever go back to a monitor again. All is connected via hdmi, thats why it looks sharper. I can get 720p to work with this machine and set. I suggest everyone to get an htpc and play some mvp on it.

ok you're definitely getting me excited about this. i've been thinking about this project for a long time. w/ the optical out on the mobo i'm assuming it can get pretty clean 5.1? does it use any type of adapter for the optical out/input? sorry to pick your brain. i've been thinking about doing this for a while and you're the first person i have "met" that actually has built one. thanks.

I do the same,

but a couple of issues with the HTPC.

Optical out of motherboard to receiver will only give you two channels of sound and the game will have to be in Prologic (unless you have a new LGA775 board with Dolby Live).

Also, the PC version does not support Widescreen ratio, so everything is stretched. Unlike the xbox version, that does support Widescreen :(

the optical out is 8 channel, and it does not look stretched out. I have it at 1280x1024 or something like that. Ok be right back with some pics.

I've been working on something like this for quite a while now... gaming on a big *** HDTV+HTPC combo really is THE BOMB!

Just this past week I decided to move from AAA (with a Shuttle XPC SN95G5 mini system) to the Big Leagues and go FULL SIZE with a bigger enclosure and some other newer parts.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow (thursday) as that's the day when all my new goodies should arrive :D.

Kumala, I may put you on my PM speed dial from now on, hehehe ;).

Rambully, about your question concerning the usage of an adapter for the optical out/input, most of today's high-end motherboards come with those connectors, in addition to the traditional ones, included as part of their backpanel... some work really good and really provide a very 'clean' source, but it all depends on the actual sound chipset/controller embedded to the motherboard and the features it supports.

H, glad to hear you got those parts coming in. Yeah, been playing on my laptop for awhile until I got back into building comps again. I love this thing, dvds, tv, pvr, games, internet on a hdtv. screw webtv.....HTPC baby.
