Camera adjustment problem

I'm trying to adjust my camera settings using Snepps Datafile Edit tut (yes, I'm a noob). It's all going fine until I try to compress the edited file when I get an error message telling me that gfxpak has been unable to compress. The only deviation that I took from the tut was to open the datafile up in wordpad instead of notepad because the file was too big for it. Could this be the reason? If not does anyone know what's going wrong & how to fix it?
