Total Classics : Phase 2 F.A.Q Thread

Ok guys, managed to get it done in between fighting and fighting.

Here's a couple of F.A.Q ahead of time before e-mails come in.

and please stop creating several personal Total Classic threads, it just hard for me and other team classic members to keep up.

THIS THREAD WILL BE UPDATED WITH ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS REGARDING THE MOST RECENT TC-RELEASE.

TOTAL CLASSICS W.I.P THREAD is for updates and questions regarding future release of Total Classics.

-------------------

F.A.Q

Will my files be backed up?

-yes, in your total classics folder, theres a subfolder called backup. Those are your original files.

I click on tc2005.exe and it says, there's a file missing from the lib folder.

-Please make sure your extracting using winRar.

I click on tc2005.exe and it says, I did not select the correct folder.

-Make sure you select your mvp2005 folder and not your mvp2005data folder.

I installed the package and when i go to select a stadium, I see ebbets field is there, so i select it but when i go in the game, it's still a minor league ball park. how come?

-I was just reserving the slot for ebbets field. Rolie will release ebbets field and any other stadium he has done when he's happy with it. He'll release it with an update package or it'll be in Phase 2.

How come the 61 Yankees,27 Yankees, 68 Tigers, 60 Pirates, 57 Braves, 55 Dodgers, 34 Cardinals, 73 A's, 75 Reds, 77 Reds, 70 Orioles and the 1919 White Sox are the only teams with portraits?

-We decided to keep it with the most popular teams with a bit of variety. You'll be able to do them all.

My installer doesn't work, i get an error message?

-Even though it should, go into the lib folder and copy everything to where they belong. (models.big into data folder, uniforms.big into frontend folder, and so on).

My game shuts off when i click mvp2005.exe after i install TC2005?

-Make sure you use the installer and if the installer doesn't work, report error message in thread - not in e-mail please. IF YOU DID NOT GET AN ERROR MESSAGE, copy the files over manually.

How come my face mods are gone?

-Because ur using a TC models.big. Please reinstall ur faces into the updated models.big. However, remember that everything is backed up in a backup folder in the TC install directory. U have all ur files saved their from before you installed TC2005.

I copied the models.big and uniforms.big from TC2005 folder and into MVP STUDIO folder. It loads fine but i dont know which team is what because i still see Minor League names.

-In the TC Folder --> lib folder, you will find a teams2005.fuz file. Copy that file over to your mvp Studio 2005 folder so that you can have a Total Classics updated team list display.

Will it take as long to finish up Single A and MLB?

-probably not since it took awhile to recreate some of the tools i'm using. name changer, logo installer, portrait creator, and so on.

So the task should be faster.

Will there be more oldtime stadiums?

- yes, 3 so far. Well, hopefully.

How Do i install PeterBernard's faces into total classics?

-using the updated Models.big that is supplied, install the face and then load up mvpedit. Search for the player name and assign the face. Refer to mvpedit tutorial. Also contact the author or whoever made the face Mod.

Joe blow doesn't run fill in the blank or Joe blow really hits fill in the blank. Or how come Joe Blow isn't on the 19 fill in the black team or how come you didn't include fill in the blank?- That's just the way things are I guess. Hope you enjoy TC anyway.

With regard to adding portraits to the game (for the teams that DIDN'T mention above -- e.g. '78 Yankees) will we have to go into each team, assign a new portrait number to each player and then import the portraits using MVPEdit or MVPStudio? If we have to assign our own numbers, is there any sort of numbering system in use like we had with TC2004 (e.g. Angels are 9000-9099, Braves are 9100-9199, etc.)?

Where do we get the portraits from -- AlexTony's Classic Portraits file? The thing that worries me about that is that all the plyer photos have names (e.g. Chambliss, Chris.bmp, Munson, Thurman.bmp) rather than portrait numbers (9001.bmp, 9002.bmp) like we did last year for TC2004. For team portraits not included in his file, can we grab them from the TC2004 packages (e.g. the '98 Yankees portraits aren't in AlexTony's file).

When you say that the audio will be correct for player names rather than the portraits, how many names are actually announced? Since the audio was recorded using the names of current players, won't the odds of having a classic player's name be announced be pretty small? Or did someone mod an audio file to address this?

as best i can answer, you will have to load the pics in via mvp editor

of the players YOU want to have pics. you will have to assign an unused audio number ex. 6900, 6901, etc.

the reason we stopped at the basic 15 teams is that the portrait.big may have a limit. it did last year and i maxed it this year at roughly 650+/- pics total.

if that IS the case, not all players are going to get pics. that way you have

12 - 15 teams already set up. then each person can pick or choose the players/teams they want to see IN ADDITION to the 12 - 15 teams players

if the portrait.big is not maxed at 650+/-, as FuzZ is looking into, then

more will be able to be added. remember, the in game pics for current players

takes up most of the portrait.big spaces as of now

there is no audio as of now. to be safe the pics should be numbered over 6000,

this way you will not hear 'Smith' as Mays comes to bat with his stats, pic and

soon face, etc

Last year, the portraits.big file had a limit of 2998 portraits. I hoped they haven't reduced this limit down to 650!

As far as the audio, do the players in the rosters all have unused audio numbers right now (other than those who have the same names as current major leaguers -- eg. Thurman Munson might have the same audio number as Eric Munson)?

they have not reduced it i do not believe

but, the 650 is in addition to the number already in the game

if they have 2348 names already (majors, minors, legends, etc)

then the additional 650 spots would equal 2,948

FuzZ is looking at this

What I remember happening last year is that you COULD add more than 2998 portraits. The TC2004 installer had a large batch file that installed all of the portraits on a single line (or a few lines if I recall correctly). The problem was that gfxpak would no longer work when you tried to use it with portraits.big. I believe that this was a gfxpak issue and not an issue with portraits.big itself.

This meant that whenever you were looking at a player in MVPEdit, an error window would popup telling you that gfxpak had encountered an error. This made editing players much more tedious because you had to close the error window everytime you selected a new player.

After the 1st release of TC2004, I remember taking my default portraits.big and removing the portraits of all the free agents, minor leaguers, etc. to free up as much space as I could. I was then able to add all the available portraits (at that time) without going over the 2998 portrait limit.

When I try to replace my backup files to play regular MVP Baseball 2005 again, I still see that stretched out image of Ebbets Field in the stadium selection screen. Which file do I need to grab off my CD to replace that?

I'm assuming the installer worked fine and TC installed fine for those who downloaded it?

Regarding the installer, in phase 2-- i'll polish it up so it's easier to switch back and forth between the originals files u have and TC2005.

Actually, none of my faces are in yet, right?

And now a typical "NOOB" question from me:

Which thread is the one where I read which teams are going to be in the finished version? I mean the PROJECTED FINAL version, not the initial release. Because I don't want to make any more faces that won't end up on a team, so I'm curious to locate that list if someone can locate it for me. THANKS.

Ok fuzzone did what you said in the readMe and looked at FAQ and this happen during install

Run-time error 68:

Device Unavailable

Update: I install it second time it go through without that error message. But once I see the Mantle screen it crashed to desktop.

Update: This is what I do third time I replace all the lib folder file except

58bd.fsh aaa1.fsh teams2005.fuz and now the game run I don't know is that the reason cause all the dat and big file was installed with the installer included (I checked the date it was created it was the same as in the lib) But the game worked only after I put the file by myself so go figure?

Is this a roster that can be converted to ps2? I know the potraits, unis, and stadiums aren't possible -- just curious about the roster set.

Thanks!

Ok, when I downloaded this, I thought that you were adding the Classic teams, my bad. Anyways, when I go into my dynasties and all that jazz, some of my Minor League ballclubs are the 54 Giants, and some other teams. Now, I read wrong and now i want to go back to the way it was before the Classics mod was installed.

Now here comes the extreme noob question, so dont flame me:

How do I do it? How do I go back to pre-Classic mod?

My question as well.

I know that TC backs up the original files, but do I just copy all of them back to their original folders? (I'd like my downloaded uniforms and accessories back in)

Now, if I do that....when I want to go back to Classic teams again, which files do i switch back?

Basically, I understand this as I should have a backup of certain files (which ones?) for each version...then when I want to play a certain version of MVP (Classic or regular) I then swap in and swap out those files.

Is this close? :?

Yes, I read the readme in the TC zip but it doesn't quite detail what to do to switch back and forth and still have all the downloaded uniforms and team names back as they were.

lol, or at least I don't understand how if it does.... :(

To Switch Back to What You had Installed Before Total Classics:

-goto the total classics install folder.

-You'll notice a backup folder

-inside you'll notice DAT FILES --> those go in your mvp 2005datadatabase folder

you'll notice LOC FILES --> those go in your mvp 2005data folder

you'll notice Models.big --> that goes in your mvp 2005data folder

you'll notice BKGNDS.big, Logos.Big,Portrait.big and uniform.big --> those go into your mvp 2005datafront end folder.

that's it. If you want to use total classics, just reinstall it using the installer.

ok, now that is very clear to follow. thanks,

Now, another Q:

If i have added uniforms to the Classic "uniform.big" and "models.big" files with MVP Studio (I added the 90 Reds unis to simulate the 77 Reds uniforms and also one other new uniform); would I make a backup of my updated "classic" models.big and uniforms.big files so that I have the uniforms that I've installed after the original Classic install? Because they would get erased once I do a re-install of TC each time correct?

Hope that wasn't too confusing of a question.. lol

um, that was confusing.

listen, u can always just use the export button in the studio to update total classics.

and ur originals .big files are in ur studio file(Whatever u did before installing studio) and ur other .big files are in ur total classics backup folder(whatever u did before installing classics)
