The current reason why I love this game.

[i contemplated posting this on the Dynasty board, but since I have no plans on posting about this season again, I did it here.]

Alright, I'm playing my Mets dynasty and it's the playoffs of the first year.

The surprise of the season is probably the San Diego Padres, who finish #1 in all of baseball with a 100-62 record. As my Mets were only able to manage the wildcard (5 games back of the Marlins, but a good 4 or 5 games ahead of the WC competition) we get to face them in round 1.

This series has a bit of an added bonus to it, as during the regular season I traded Cliff Floyd, Mike Cameron and Jeff Conine to the Padres to get Ryan Klesko and Brian Lawrence.

I sim the first 3 games of the series (I usually only play 2 or 3 games a month, as I want to get a lot of seasons in) and then take control for Game 4, up 2-1.

I lose.

So a big Game 5 showdown is setup in San Diego.

I get off to a good start, scoring a run, although I should have scored 2, but sloppy base running ended that. And that run will come back to haunt me.

The Padres put up 2 in the bottom of the second, I reply with 2 runs in the top of the 4th, they only manage 1 in the bottom of that inning, and I put up a run in the 5th and 6th to go ahead 5-3.

The Padres end my hopes of a tidy series win by scoring twice in the bottom of the 8th, and we end up in the bottom of the 9th all tied.

It ends up that with no one out, Freddy Guzman ends up on 1st and Mike Cameron on 3rd. Bad stuff. I get lucky when Ramon Hernandez lines out, and then I get REAL lucky when Khalil Green grounds into a huge double play!

So, to extra innings we go.

The 12th comes along, and with 1 out Kaz Matsui gets on first, and then steals a base to get into scoring position. Ryan Klesko then steps up and strikes out. The Padres then walk Carlos Beltran, and Willy Mo Pena steps up. Pena is 2-4 with 2 doubles, but he has also struck out twice, and unfortunately he makes it 3, ending my chances.

The Padres threaten in the 14th, as Phil Nevin doubles then Dave Roberts pinch-hits for the pitcher and gets a single, but Nevin has to stay at second.

Next is an Infield Fly, then Hernandez lays down a nice bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd, but again I can rely on Greene to make the out.

The Padres AGAIN challenge in the bottom of the 15th, with both our benches getting thin. With 1 out, Sean Burroughs belts a double, Mark Loretta makes an out but advances the runner.

Brian Giles steps up, and smacks a bouncer that goes off the plate.. and HIGH into the air!! Reyes can't wait for the ball to finally fall in his glove and he whips it at first base, but it's no good, Giles is safe, Burroughs scores and my season is over!!

One of the best games, and series, I've played in this game, really got me excited for MVP again!

In other 1st round action, The Marlins sweep the Cardinals 3-0, the Yankees do the same to the Athletics, and the Red Sox beat the Twins 3-1.

In the ALCS the Yankees beat Boston 4-3, while the Marlins handle the Padres 4-2, and in the end it's the Yankees claiming another World Series title with a 4-2 series win over the Marlins. The World Series MVP? Tino Martinez! Who woulda thought.
