PirateFan13
I get so frustrated with pitching I just want to smash my PC. I do all the things most people recommend. I change speeds, I move the ball around, I pitch inside to set up the outside breaking ball, etc. But players CRUSH good pitches over the fence. There is no way a guy like Juan Pierre is going to take a 2 strike outside and low breaking ball over the LF wall. Its unrealistic! Not to mention, my pitchers may say they have 100 velocity but only pitch around 93MPH. If I set up a guy with a 94mph velocity I'd be lucky if he throws 88, whats the deal? On top of that, when I face a guy like Bob Gibson, his breaking ball drops from the top of the zone to out of the zone on the bottom. My breaking ball moves about a half and inch. (I mirrored Bob Gibson). Somebody help before I start playing frisbee with my MVP2005 disc and my dog. PirateFan13
vinnycast27
lol i know what your going through. my main problem is that i get ahead in the count and just as im 1 pitch away from a K. bang! basehit. i'll admit i don;t concede too many homers maybe 1 or 2 a game if that. but basehits is just silly always around 15ish! 8O i realise there's a hint of realism especially if you have a 5th starter up and he's getting taken apart. but when you see jamie moyer getting hit all over its somewhat depressing lol i tend to find the main problem is the hitters dont swing at trash. i cant win, say im 0-2 up, i'll pitch 2 straight off the plate pitches to get him to chase, he doesnt chace. so i go back over the plate in a corner and guess what.....BASEHIT lol If it wasn't for the amou8nt of double plays i can make and my relatively good batting i'd lose soo many more games that i do. but i do find pitching k's a struggle, i just cant finish batters off. PirateFan13
I agree about the CPU batters not chasing... Their batting eye is impeccable. Any pitch about an 1/8 inch off the plate they wont swing at it.
The H
Are you guys using any tuning sliders at all??? I know the CPU has a batting eye that's simply incredible, but if you increase the foul ball rate and the swinging rate, you'll be able to make the CPU fail in a more realistic way. nittanylionfan3
Are you powering up your pitches the whole way. If your'e guy can throw 100 and he's only throwing 90 every game, you probably aren't powering up the pitches the whole way.
vinnycast27
cheers for the input H. ye i use pareds sliders with spitoons data file, ill play few game n see what happens
TROR
also try using some datafile mods w/ tuning sliders, they make the game more realistic. I use one of KSM's datafiles and I've tuned the sliders. The CPU crushes obvious mistakes, and rarely crushes good pitches. I'm still able to lose, but most of my games have realistic scores.
The H
Forget about KSM datafiles... the only good thing about them is the camera mods he introduced with them. Other than that, he alters the gameplay way too much for the taste of many gamers around here.
vinnycast27
ok just won 6-2 against the twins. got 7 k's with franklin. i did the following CPU CONTACT +10 CPU POWER + 10 SWING FREQUENCY +40 FOUL FREQUENCY +30 up until the 6th inning they let me pitch the first 2 pitches as strikes and then id eventually get them to swing at one away. when like i said at the 6th they realised i throw 2 straight strikes and started to get more hits. but after a few scares i only gave up 5 hits all game and dished 2 walks. hopefully it seems my pitchin problems are sorted. on to game 2... The H
Believe it or not, but the CPU tends to learn your pitching strategy throughout the game. If you keep pitching the same way, it will rip you apart in no time. Those values are good... my only suggestion would be to up the foul frequency to +45 and to lower the swing frequency to +35. Give them a try and let me know if you like those changes or not.
PirateFan13
powering up my pitches? Hold the phone... when I begin the pitch, do I have to press the button again at the top of the meter and a third time inside the green? If this is so, then I've been doing this wrong since MVP2004. nittanylionfan3
Are you holding the pitch button till the bar gets to the end of the meter or are you just tapping it.
PirateFan13
I think I just tap it and then wait for it to come back to the green... Wierd, I cant remember.
nittanylionfan3
If you tap it, then that would be why your'e guys aren't throwing very hard.
spitoon
I think I just tap it and then wait for it to come back to the green... Wierd, I cant remember. I've seen people having this problem quite often. It's not like a computer golf swing where you click three times...You need to hold down the button until the meter fills all the way up (or at least just into the red zone), then release it, and quickly press it again when it comes back into the green zone. If you don't you aren't maximizing the 'effectiveness' of the pitches, which would explain your slower fastball, and the small break on your curveballs. PirateFan13
I just tried it out at work here (always keep a copy of the game on my laptop), and wouldn't you know, this is why I've had trouble. You guys are great. Thanks for the assistance. vinnycast27
H i changed the values and its working a treat. only problem is i play on pro and hittings too easy. ive got spitoons data file on which increases cpu balls but in pro its still got too many pitches over the plate. even with CPU ball frequency on +50 i only get 2 walks if i dont swing at anything. ive tried on all-star but its too hard to pitch, so i've foudn my equilibirum on pro, ive made the CPU a better hitter and ive lowered my CONTACT AND POWER TO -10 EACH looks like my dynasty can finally get started!!! Actually, my mod does nothing to the CPU ball rate...it only changes the size of the accuracy area on the pitch meter, making it harder for the USER to throw strikes. I'm using CPU Pitch Control -50 and CPU Ball Rate +20 on Pro. Last night I drew 5 walks off John Leiber, 2 with the bases loaded :)
vinnycast27
omg really! i always was under the impression that because when i pitched it was soo hard that the CPu wouild have it hard too! damn! oh well, ill use your values and see what i can do. ive only had 3 walks in 4 games :? thats with CPU BALL RATE 50, maybe increasing the BALL CONROL to a minus figure will help. thanks mate
spitoon
Well, I'm assuming that the CPU pitcher doesn't use the pitchmeter in the same way as we do

abhall
cheers for the input H. ye i use pareds sliders with spitoons data file, ill play few game n see what happens Also, make sure you are using PITCH HISTORY. I use it for every CPU plate appearance starting with their 2nd at bat and on. I'm stating this because in talking to a number of people they don't even know pitch history exists. It helps significantly. e.g. You face Pujols and he HR's in his 1st at bat. You went 4seam, curve, curve, CU and he blasted it. The next time you face him don't start with a 4seam and then move to a curve? If you didn't use pitch history you may not recall how you pitched him. Remember, you're facing a computer. It's actions are based purely on numbers/trends, etc. Hence, a computer.
