  1. Now you’re the one being a comedian. That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard you say in a long time. You gave up on the team in April.
  2. Y4L - Here’s something you’ll get a chuckle out of. Today I went to the SWB Railriders / Worcester Red Sox game in Worcester. Polar Park, the Red Sox stadium is a 10 minute drive from my house. While at the game, I got to see some old friends on the Railriders. Miguel Andujar was in left field and Greg Bird was the DH. Former Yankee Rob Refsneyder plays for the Red Sox. We were sitting just past 3rd base, 9 rows from the field. In the bottom of the 5th inning, a foul ground ball rolled into left field. Andujar picked it up and looked over at our section. He threw it over and as it was in the air, I realized it was coming right to me. I believe it was intentional because I was the only one looking at him wearing a Yankees hat. As the ball got near me, I reached up with both hands, only to have it bounce off and land on the seat in front of me. Because it was so hot today (mid-90’s), there were a lot of no-shows so there were plenty of empty seats around us. I simply reached down and picked up the ball. The fans let me hear it when I dropped the ball, but I got some cheers when I walked to the end of the row and gave it to a kid who brought his glove to the game.
  3. Here are my thoughts on this: 1. Chad Green will be missed but Michael King has turned into a real shutdown reliever. Chad Holmes has also been lights out. I believe their performances so far will cover for Green’s absence. 2. Higgy and Gallo will be back in a matter of days. It’s not like they have been hitting the cover off the ball. Trevino has seemed as good defensively, so I don’t think there will be a drop off. 3. I’m sorry to see Gil having to undergo surgery and hope he makes a full recovery, but right now, he’s still mainly a Triple-A pitcher, who gets called up for spot starts, so again, it’s not a major impact to the MLB club. My bigger concern is The Yankees’ closer situation. I never feel confident when Chapman comes in and I don’t believe that Boone does either.
  4. What’s that you were saying about dead bats?? 🤔
  5. They have also been stealing more bases, getting runners into scoring position, which allows them to score runs with base hits rather than just home runs.
  6. 9 wins in a row 3 straight series sweeps 11 wins in their last 12 games The best record in baseball Enough said . . .
  7. Maybe, but 6 straight wins and 8 out of their last 9, as well as the best record in the American League makes me think they are better than you do. I’m enjoying every win.
  8. As far as the Indians / Braves / Redskins / Chiefs, it’s easy for us to trivialize and say that the names are no big deal. We are not Native Americans whose ancestors were treated unfairly. You see it as no big deal to keep the names. I see it as no big deal to change them to something less offensive to others. And FYI, I’m not on Twitter so I can’t be lumped in with the “Twitter complainers.”
  9. Considering that you don’t pay attention to them, you sure post a lot in this thread. 😄
  10. That’s why they play 9 innings and not just 5 . . .
  11. After 6 innings, it’s Quitters 5 Orioles 2
  12. Considering that Montgomery took a 100+ mph batted ball off his left leg in the 1st inning, it’s amazing that he lasted 3-1/3 innings.
  13. Another solid performance by the Yankees bullpen today. 6 innings without giving up a hit.
  14. The article says that the Yankees were willing to give him the $21 million he wanted this year and then add the extension next year so the total would be around $234 million. Plus they were willing to put some opt-outs in the contract. He’s 30 years old. A 10 year contract takes him to 40. There is no way he plays that long. Not because he isn’t talented. Players decline in their mid to late 30’s, plus with his size, he’s more prone to injuries. We’ve already seen evidence of that with both him and Stanton. Judge said that he’d love to be a Yankee for life, but I guess accepting this offer and being the highest paid position player in team history isn’t enough.
  15. I just read an article in the NY Post that said that Judge was looking for 10 years / $360 million. If he truly does wait until the end of the season to restart negotiations, he is gambling that he has a mostly injury-free season to justify a contract higher than the Yankees offered. https://nypost.com/2022/04/08/aaron-judges-quiet-confidence-biggest-barrier-in-contract-talks/
  16. The latest report is that Severino threw a bullpen session yesterday using all of his pitches and felt no soreness afterward. He is now scheduled to pitch in a game on Saturday.
  17. If for no other reason, Wade and Velazquez gave the Yankees some much needed speed on the base paths.
  18. Frazier doesn’t surprise me but I’m sorry to see Wade go.
  19. They were thrown out at the plate more than any other team (Nevin) and had issues hitting (Thames), so changes were definitely needed in those areas.
  20. PLEASE root for the Red Sox in the ALCS! It’s the only way they are going to lose . . .
  21. How exactly is that rubbing it in? It’s a story in a Boston newspaper reporting on the Red Sox win the night before. I read it twice and I couldn’t find anything that you consider “rubbing it in.” Everything reported in the article was true. Contrast that article with this playful one In the New York Post on Tuesday morning, with the title “Boston sucks — and these are all the reasons why“: https://nypost.com/2021/10/04/why-boston-sucks-forget-it-losers-its-beantown/amp/
  22. Just let it go. Let’s stay in topic here. Looking forward to tonight’s game. I’d love another finish like this one: https://nypost.com/2021/10/04/bucky-dent-hoping-for-new-hero-to-emerge-in-yankees-red-sox/
  23. "Their" problem? I guess that makes me one of "them", but I'll leave it at that, since we're getting off the main purpose of this thread.
  24. I believe they can beat the Red Sox, especially since Sale won’t be starting, however, based upon recent history, I don’t think they can get past the Rays. I would love to be proven wrong, however, and I will be rooting for them as always.
  25. Correction - They COULD win one game this weekend, but they didn’t make it easy. On to Boston on Tuesday.
