If anyone knows what values change the frequency of balls thrown, thanks! :)
-
I was researching on plate patience stats, and these are the raw numbers I collected in the 2008 season, from B-R splits and FanGraphs:
- There were 714,136 pitches last year. 267,457 were called balls, and 446,679 strikes.
- According to FanGraphs data, 364,574 of them were in the strike zone. That's 51.1% of pitches are thrown in the strike zone (doesn't mean they were aimed there,) meaning 349,562 were out of zone.
- Of the 364,574 pitches were in the strike zone, hitters swung at 238,575 of them. That's 65.4%, so 34.6% of pitches in the strike zone were taken.
- The pitches that were out of the strike zone... 349,562... Batters swung at them 88,940 of them, or 25.4%. That's how often they chase.
- With pitches in the strike zone, they made contact 209,595 times, or 87.9% of the time.
- With pitches outside the strike zone, they made contact 54,885 times, or 61.7%.
- There were 131,854 PA where the ball went in play (3,697 of them foul), and 4867 HR (which aren't considered in play. IHR are counted in the balls in play.) This means 133,027 of the balls hit were fair and in play.
- Because contact was made 264,480 times, that means 131,453 of all ball in which contact are made are foul, or 49.7%.
If someone wants to make use of this info, feel free.
Patsen, this information is great, but please try to stay on topic. This topic is for Modding Questions, not Plate Patience Stats...

You know there's a slider for that, right? It has an effective impact on balls for sure.
Haha yep, I know there's a slider for it. I think that editing it in the datafile, if there is a corresponding value, would give more of an accurate impact.
Like for example:
BallSpeedMaxMod_BatterPower is the speed the ball comes off the bat. The default factor is set to 1.15. That means a pitch that is thrown at 100 mph, would hit off that bat maximally at 115 mph.
I know that approximately 37% of pitches are balls, so I want to reflect that in the datafile. :)

Hey folks:
I'm trying to create a modify my datafile, but am coming up lost. I've looked at both the wonderful Datafile Editing Spreadsheets, and they've been helpful, but I can't seem to find a value for changing the frequency of the number of balls (pitches thrown outside the zone).
Is there are a value? or is my search futile and an endless goose chase? If anyone can help, thanks in advance!

patsen said:I see your point. I've been lurking for years, so I know exactly what you're talking about.
But it seems my techniques would be better in Total Minors Total Classics. Of course I can't make one of those myself, so I need to assist people on an ongoing mod. Hence the replying to '99 mod.
Nominally, this would be most useful for the 2009 rosters, but my projections are nothing compared to PECOTA, ZiPS, CHONEs, and all the other projection algorithms named after token third basemen. And, until I see how KG or other roster modders run things, I can't propose changes or scripts.
So, I'll just pull back and run my research on empirical ratings. Preliminary results were interesting... I'll post when I have more info.
Patsen, although your stat compilation process is impressive, you can't assume that others will want to use it. If they ask for them, then by all means share. But don't assume.
I love this thread for it's original purpose, highlighting the amazing work done by the Total Classics team, let's try to revive it [the original purpose].

that's good. as i said it was first quick imporessions of the version of the schedule. it's possible i missed the all all star in there, but i thought i'd looked throught it before i asked about it. anyway its good, i dont think there much more you need to do with it.
Thanks mcoll86!

thanks dylan this tool is fantasic!
Thanks Louie, I'm glad you like it!

The schedule is based on the default schedules, so it follows the same format. Therefore if Team A in the default plays everyday for a week, then Team A in the new schedule will too.
There is some randomization involved as well, and therefore it can't account for everything. Generate a new schedule if you don't like the Dodgers having three Sundays off in a row.
Lastly, in every schedule I have made the All-Star Game is there, so perhaps you just overlooked it.
Thanks for using my program, mcoll86.

I'm getting an error message:
MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC
_______________________
Compile error in hidden module: module 1
I have 3 variations of MS Visual Basic C and 1 of J installed (I'm not saavy in what they mean). Any clues?
That error usually occurs when you open a workbook that was created in a later version of Excel than yours and one of it's modules refers to something that's not available in your version. I made the program using MS Excel 2003.
I really have no idea how to fix this problem, however. Sorry bro. :(

Good to see the ability to remove the interleague games. Ive always been a fan of only playing against the other league in the world series, so this is a nice option to have now in MVP. Plus it will cheer up the yankee fans that Wang wont get injured running the bases in June! :-) (ok maybe not the case at the moment... ha)Yeah, this is pretty awesome to have. It's too bad something like this wasn't around a long time ago. Oh well, I just came around a few months back, so I get it pretty early on
Dylan, you are the man. Other than stadiums, I can not think of any mods I use more than yours. So simple, yet so useful.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the positive feedback. I'm glad you guys enjoy it!

Hey Folks,
I'm sure more than one member would like an option to get rid of Interleague Play. I just need testers to make sure it a sample outputted schedule (without interleague play) works.
If a few of you could test the attached schedule, and report back, it would be very appreciated. Just replace the attached schedule.big over the one in your MVP Baseball 2005\data\database folder.
Please remember to backup, in case it crashes.
Thanks Folks! :)

Fantastic job. I love the option of taking a look at your finished schedule on a spreadsheet. All dynasty owners should grab this. It's another one of Dylan's must-have utilities for you!
Thank you Yankee!
Ive always wanted someone to come up with this exact tool. I tried doing it with my (limited) skills, but never really worked it out.Excellent work! One of the best new tools that has come along for a long time.
Thanks phil! My first try at this, I failed too. Enjoy!
good job dylan ill have to try this outThanks roy.
Thanks for the compliments, everyone! :)

its ok, but is something of an idea. maybe it can be done. rules rules, i dont care about if the leagues could be sperated at the major league level. they do it at triple a, so i dont see why its not at least possible?
It's a really good idea actually... It might take a while, but I'll try to make version 2.0 have no Interleague Play. No promises though.
-
this grate idea, and i'll try it out, but i have ?. does this one or you know of a sheduler that will it, but keep the 2 mlb leagues apart. i'm a older league type guy, be i'm still enough not to have know the baseball without the DH.
No it will not keep the two leagues apart, every schedule it generates will include Interleague Play. Perhaps it'll be something I'll add in a future release. I don't know of another Schedule Generator that will not include Interleague Play.
Sorry.

File Name: Dylan's MVP Baseball 2005 Schedule Generator
File Submitter: DylanBradbury
File Submitted: 14 Apr 2009
File Category: Tools and Editors
Version: 2.1
This program generates a random schedule for MVP 2005. If you're tired of playing the same schedule year after year, this is for you.
Features:
- Generates three (3) random schedules to replace the default schedules in schedule.big
- Each team plays in series, just like a real schedule
- Preview the written schedule in Excel
- Choose the Interleague Division Matchups you want
- Remove Interleague Play, if you wish
- Choose the All-Star Game's Home Team (American or National League)
Follow the instructions in the included readme, to generate a new schedule.
- I've also created a version (2.1) that has moved Houston to the AL West, and generates a schedule with the new alignment. NEW!
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL SCHEDULE.BIG.
If you have any questions or concerns, just e-mail me.
Enjoy!

I've used your program before, and it's worked fine...
However, today I came across this message when importing the exported rosters from your program.
If anyone could help, that would be great.

...Here's a little plug for Dylan Bradbury's calculator utilities that he has for the game. Try them out and you'll really like them. I believe there's about four different programs and each one of them can help you run a better dynasty.
Thanks Y4L for the plug. Very kind. :)

Thanks DylanBradbury for your help.
You're welcome Trues! Nice work on the design.

Maestro23 suggested I post here post here for MVP 1994 sliders. Does anyone care to share the ones they use for the greatest mod of all?
Myself and MissDCole are still looking for some 1994 sliders. I'm sure we'd both really appreciate if anyone could post the sliders they use for the game.
Thanks!
-
If you want to randomly generate a schedule, there is a mod in the download section.
This sounds like a great idea, but I could not find one for a 162 game schedule. Could you maybe provide a link?

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the slider's affect the game in manager mode?
If they do, does anyone care to share their slider settings at ANY level (Rookie, Pro, All-Star, MVP) for Manager Mode?
If not, sorry to bother you...

If you know where it is, give the guy a link. It will save me from looking through my CD's.
Don't worry guys, I came across it. No need to search for me any longer! Thanks for your efforts!

Hey dudes,
Homer, you asked a while ago if it would possible to convert my rating calculators into a spreadsheet form, and an idea hit me:
Why don't you record a macro, copying stats from excel into my calculators, generating the ratings, and then pasting the results into another spreadsheet. I don't know how familiar you are with macros, but it's worth a look.
If not, I may be able to create a macro that accomplishes this. No promises.
