NBA Rumor Report
January 27th, 2014 - The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly engaged in talks with numerous teams in regards to a trade that would include Pau Gasol. A league source has confirmed that talks between the Lakers and other teams are indeed "serious", and are expected to culminate in a trade "sooner rather than later". Apparently Los Angeles has been looking to move Gasol for some time now, as his production has steeply declined this year. Gasol is averaging just 12 points per game, and went pointless in the Lakers last game against the Timberwolves.
Lakers General Manager GoRedSox34 reportedly believes that Gasol simply is not a great fit in the Los Angeles offense anymore. However, the big man is still considered to be a top player, talent-wise. He remains a highly desired commodity on the trade market. Will this be the year that Gasol is finally traded away from Los Angeles? While these rumors are still developing, here's what is being speculated at the moment.
Potential Suitors: Celtics, Mavericks
The Lakers have reportedly had talks with the Boston Celtics regarding a trade that is centered around Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett. It is unknown whether additional assets would be included in the deal. Los Angeles is rumored to have an interest in Jeff Green, as LA looks to improve the small forward position.
As far as the Mavericks rumors are concerned, league sources have told ESPN's Chris Broussard that Mavs star big man Dirk Nowitzki is highly coveted by Los Angeles. The Lakers are looking to acquire Dirk, even if it takes Gasol to get it done. The Mavericks are currently at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
