New Roster Project Planned: I Need Your Help! First: Ratings
niharjhatn replied to wudl83's topic in MLB 2K12
Excellent work man! Looking forward to how they will play! -
Dude it looks absolutely fantastic. Slight performance hit but not too bad. I plugged it into my 60" and it looks gorgeous. Honestly, even comparing side by side with the show, the almost blunted facial features and the at times stupid (compared to say nba 2k) cloth graphics really makes the mod shine. Tremendous work as usual. As I've said before, I've logged so many hours in the game almost solely due to the work put in by the community, so yeah, thanks.

Twnlove In Mlb 2K12 ( A.j.c.y Mod. Rlsd! In ..... Pg.15 O )

I get what you're saying, but honestly given the limitations of the engine plus I just think that Braun just has a tougher face to re-create. But Kemp, Pujols, Howard and A-gon look UNBELIEVABLY life like. Awesome job twnlove, appreciate the effort you put in! :D -

Wondering if you could take a stab at Cole Hamels as well... not exactly a power hitter... but a power pitcher? Needs short hair and a better face. Probably be a bit difficult recreating him though... but it'll be awesome if you could have a go at it. -
I like the show a lot, and I guess it is the 'better' game, but I just seem to find 2k's offering a bit more fun - it has a nice combination of arcade/sim baseball that the show doesn't offer. Plus, PC mlb 2k means a lot of mods etc. :D

Actually, SIERA is heralded as the new best thing over FIP, as FIP ignores balls in play. Initially tERA was used, but SIERA is considered better.

Yes, Lincecum was not top 10 last year, possibly not even making top 15 (and I am a big Lincecum fan) but he was so dominant for the three 2008-2010 seasons... a high rating is probably warranted based on those years, maybe not 99 though wudl is completely right in the regard that ERA depends so much on fielding that it is a poor stat to judge pitchers by, and it is very tough to come to a conclusion regarding this season after only 3 starts. his drop in velocity is particularly troubling though, and I hope he can recover, otherwise I feel pretty bad for him. He has apparently dropped his slider as well, maybe due to the mechanical stress it puts on a pitchers arm? Who knows...

I don't think there would be harm. I've modded other games and used props from the original game devs (think props etc for levels) - people do this all the time. So yeah no problem. And it would make some of the cyberfaces MUCH easier to manage... :D

Hoping for a Freddy Galvis cyberface...

HA - what a joke. You have people ripping into politicians like Obama and Ron Paul - indeed it is their right to do so - and now the same people accusing Ozzie of (what I assume is!) being anti-democratic and insensitive, whilst running their own 'mcCarthyist' campaign! Incredible!

I actually love the foul balls - its brilliant, and very nail biting when having a 13 hit at bat As for 8, it might be due to living rosters?
-
Just thought I'd update.... from Ronnie 2k's twitter #MLB2K12 Roster Update w/ Darvish, Cespedes et all will be going live within 48 hours. Nice, will be cool until BSU gets his awesome roster together :D

I actually hit way more homers with a high pitch speed, and strike out a lot as well, no real in between. With a low pitch speed, I might hit 1 or 2 a game - when I played with a high pitch speed I think I hit 4 in a game, because I just swing at virtually everything. If you are finding it so easy, what user contact do you play with? I play with 25.
-
I actually think its a bit more challenging at lower difficulties, as I try to work counts much more rather than reflex spam the 'hit' button (i play classic swing). I get K'd way more at high pitch speeds, but I hit more homers as well... IMO its more fun at lower pitch speeds, and you can have great plate battles as well.

Thanks for these mercy I've started playing the game a lot more last fortnight or so, and so have been experimenting with a ton of sliders. I find yours to be pretty decent across the board...as in offering the best 'overall' experience. edit Have you seen hetfield's sliders on operation sports? His offer an excellent fielding experience, perhaps you'd take a look at them?
-
Awesome then. I could talk about the new Sabermetrics for pitchers for several hours - I just really want people interested in baseball to move away from wins and losses and ERA when so many better stats are available, such as FIP and SIERA, which take into account all sorts of factors, from the defence behind them to the park they play in.
-
You are right, I am sorry for taking the thread off target. In my defence, I will say I was just providing some proof to my claims that Halladay still deserves #1 spot... but yeah I am leaving the topic there. On topic - the first one has been released, but perhaps the more prominent rookies like Cespedes still hasn't been included, a fake player for him and Yu Darvish are there instead.

BABIP = batting average on balls in play BABIP usually hovers around .300 for ALL pitchers, having a year or two away from this is often regarded as being fortunate, even very lucky - i.e. hitters were hitting his ball into play, but still not scoring (on the bases or getting any RBIs) Hence why Verlander was discussed so much in Sabermetric circles - I daresay those articles describe the conundrum much more eloquently than I can. Was Verlander just plain lucky, or was his pitching style (especially given how he increases velocity later throughout the game) some how influencing his BABIP to a degree? I think he was both a bit fortunate, but his pitching played a part as well... but that's my own natural bias as being somewhat impartial to a pitcher who can hit triple digits in the 6/7th innings. edit... My definition of BABIP is perhaps a bit misleading - the hitters were hitting his pitches, but still weren't getting hits (i.e. were not getting on base or scoring runs)
-
His BABIP last year was 0.236 - that's an aberration, not bloody wins or ERA, possibly the worst measures of stats for a pitcher (SP especially). He is excellent, no doubt, but was exceedingly fortunate he had such a ridiculously low BABIP. Usually his is 0.290+, and BABIP tends to regress back to the mean very quickly. I love Verlander, one of my favourite pitchers, but yeah, he outperformed everyone's expectations last year, and it is unlikely to be really sustainable. Were I building a rotation, Halladay would still be #1 (Verlander possibly #2... )
-
As long as they put V-MART on the DL as there first move, I'll be happy. Motown is a b**** to play against right now. Plus Verlander ranked higher than Halladay? I know he's on your cover, but com'on, last year was an aberration... On another note, can't believe Roy Oswalt, Johnny Damon, and V-lad haven't been signed yet... maybe Billy Beane can sign them :D

Random Thoughts On A Sunday Morning Updated To 11-24

^^^ Haha about Colon... but damn, he pitched a pretty good game the other day. True it was against a horrible offense, but nice game regardless.
