You move the player's position to the spot in the lineup that you want him. Then replace him with a bench player. Then put him back in the lineup where you moved him position to. It takes some jockeying with players but it can be done in Ty's editor 1.1. You can move them anywhere in the lineup with all teams using the editor. With some pratice, you'll learn a few shortcuts.

I chnage my lineups using Ty's editor and in the game. Do you have control of all 30 teams in the game? If not, might be reason for not being able to do so.

I use a wired usb xbox 360 controller without any problems.

Click on the team tab in ty's editor and change the pitching role in the tab to the right of the rotation.

If you have Ty' editor , you can check everything but the black crosses in the game. Then you can try getting back into game to check the black crosses. The editor is in the download section of this website.

Make sure all teams have 25 players on roster, lineups filled as well as pitching rotations. In game, check for any players that have the black cross in your lineups or rotations as they need to be replaced, that has caused me to be booted out to desktop. Finally, backup your roster/franchise often, in game.

Go to controller options and push down on the left toggle button, it will bring up options for classic or total control for both pitching and hitting. You need to save these settings at end of game or they revert back to default.

Have you tried changing the in game camera angles? That might be a viable option from the batter's view.
