Random Thoughts On A Sunday Morning Updated To 11-24
sabugo replied to Yankee4Life's topic in Left Field (Off-Topic)
The Yankees are pursuing: A ) Derrek Lee B ) Chipper Jones C ) Ben Francisco I figure this belongs in this thread because...I mean, it can't get more random than this, can it?! -
But that is if you throw like 3 CB's in a row. The problem is that even if you throw something else in between, the CB isn't going back to green. Even if you throw 10 other different pitches in between. The system is designed to work in that way, IMO. Throw too many of one pitch, or too many in a row, and the hitter will sit on them, just like in real-life. But you can't really sit on something if there are 10 pitches in between, or am I wrong? Different pitchers throw more or less curves, depending on their style and it's effectiveness. For example, Joba Chamberlain throwing a curve is a totally different thing from someone who can actually pitch a curve. And the hitter's ability to pick up on it would also be different. That's how I perceived the system up until now.

No need for google when I have an expert like you who gets back to me in a matter of minutes. :good:

There are hidden batting/pitching stances?

Could it be that 2KSports figured that after you throw one CB in real life the hitter gets the hang of it faster than if it was a FB, and then used that in the game?? I don't think this is your fault by any means, I'm just curious if there is a solution for it, or how could we work around it. Let's just sum up what we know for sure so far, which isn't much: - CB's turn red faster and sometimes don't go back to yellow or green - None of us ever noticed this before What changed from when we played before to now? I'm guessing a lot of us used a lot of different rosters, and this happens with a bunch of different rosters. Could it be the sliders? (I can't figure out a reasn why that would be the case, but it's just about the only thing we haven't considered)
-
I just think that if this was intended to work this way, then it just doesn't make much sense, does it? Like I said before, in theory this is a good system. But it has to have some sort of checks and balances system to make it work properly. Or is there something else that we're not getting? Because I've played something like at least 80 games in franchise mode and at least as many in exhibition mode and I've never noticed this happen. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I doubt it.
-
WTF did 2KSports do?! I'm guessing the sim engine works independently or in a different way than if you actually play the game. Man, these dudes really complicated things when they designed this game.
-
My thoughts exactly. 2KSports clearly have some talent in their ranks, but they seem to lack the intelligence to make things work properly. In theory, the system for calculating how many times is too much for a certain pitch thrown, using % and tendencies is a good system. They just didn't troubleshoot it properly I guess. This is just another example of how poorly their products have been tested. The date bug is another. Maybe BSU-Fan has some info or suggestions on why this is happening with the curveballs.
-
Man, I didn't want to give all this extra work...I'm sorry for that. And we keep finding out new flaws with 2K's system as time passes by.
-
Neither have I. Wonders never cease with 2KSports.

So apparently once a week this is news. -
Ok, tried the newer version. That Angels lineup is a nightmare... So, Darvish's pitches turn yellow and red fast but they do go back to green eventually. I think it might have to do with how he mixes his pitches. Weird thing is, with all of the relievers I tried (Nathan, Scheppers, Lindlbom), their curveball turns red after two pitches and NEVER goes back to even yellow. (I have a game saved on the top of the 7th so that I could go back and keep trying different relievers and see how they do) Anyone else had this happening? Edit/Update: So like I said, I have a game saved in the 7th which I can go back to and try different relievers. Now I think what might be screwing up the curveballs might be the fact that it is a saved game. I went back to the game and this time I left Darvish in the game a little while longer and his curve stayed red and didn't come back. Don't know why this is happening, I'll have to play a game without saving to give you better info on this.

Yeah, the Yankees 2013 season has great potential for disaster... Teixeira...I really really really don't want say bad things about him because of his Portuguese ancestry so I'll just let you say what we are all thinking. I just hope that wherever the Yankees travel this season, the opposing fans will show as much class as Mariano has always had, and give him the proper farewell tour that he rightfully deserves. In how many fields can you say that there is one single person that is the absolute best ever at what he did???? Thank you Mr. Rivera! About Cashman's jump and taking A-Rod with him: I woudln't take A-Roid anywhere. Judging by how many injuries and bumps and bruises the man has had recently I'm afraid that if he farts he might break his ***, so... I'd only take him anywhere wrapped in protecting foam. -
They came back to green/yellow. But they did seem to get red a lot faster than with other pitchers. Patience is something that I lack sometimes too. I will try the newer version as soon as I can and leave feeback afterwards.

Perfect as always. Can't wait for you to do Francisco Cervelli, haha. -
Played another game, this time Rangers vs Indians. Kinsler led off the game with a HR and then I got three straight singles and a run, which made me think 'another slugfest'. Little did I know, those were the only two runs I'd get all game. In the end it was all I needed. A 2-0 victory was by no means a slugfest and the game played within very realistic values of hits, walks, strike %, etc. Darvish was great, pitching a 4-hit complete game shutout, with 5K's. 2 of those hits came in the 9th with one out, after which he proceeded to induce a game-ending double play. His pitching icons did seem to become 'red' a lot faster than with other pitchers, but I don't really use the Rangers or Darvish, so that is something that needs better checking. Ubaldo Jimenez struggled with his control but managed to only walk one batter. He got into this really bad habbit for me of getting to the 3 ball count and only then started throwing strikes. In all, a much more realistic experience than the first game I played. (Even though games with a lot of runs and hits do occur). I really think you did a geat job. Also, the Rangers' cap colour seemed to me a bit different from the rest of the blue on their uniforms. Hope this helps :good:

x2. Don't know anything about modding but if there's anything I can do to help, just ask. Making this happen would definitely bring some new life to 2K12.

Just played a game with your rosters and slider set. A little too many hits but it was only one game, and I can always adjust the sliders. So, I played Yankees vs Rays and beat them 8-3. I got 16 hits and they got 10. It was also a Sac-fly fest with two for each team. Sabathia was pitching for me and while I struggled a bit with control in the first few innings I got to work around it and one gave up one walk and 7 hits over 7.1 with 5 K's. At one point I retired 9 in a row. Brett Gardner went 3-4 with a double. Matt Diaz hit a double down the line and hit 2-4. Cano hit 3-5 with a 3-run homer to left. Youkilis homered to leadoff the 5th and welcome Hernandez into the game, after a 4 run 4th inning chased Hellickson, who was pitching pretty well until that, out of the game. Jeter struck out 3 times, so I figured I'd give Nunez a try and he singled. For TB, Jennings stole 2nd two times, but we all know Chris Stewart sucks behind the plate. 79% strikes for TB and 68 for the NYY but I wasn't really being patient, just wanted to try the rosters. I chased a bunch that I shoudln't have. 7K's for Tampa and 6 for the Yankees. All in all, the gameplay is good and as realistic as I think this game can be, except for the hitting but like I said, it was only one game. I'll have to play some more to give you better feedback. Still, excellent work!

Thanks man, will give it a try soon.
